Dietrich Reinhart OSB, 59 Brother Dietrich Reinhart of Saint John&apos;s Abbey died Monday, Dec. 29, 2008, at the retirement center of the abbey. He was 59. Mass of Christian Burial will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, in Saint John's Abbey Church with inter- ment in Saint John's Cemetery fol- lowing the service. Thomas Edward Reinhart was born May 17, 1949, to Donald and Eleanor (Noonan) Reinhart in Min- neapolis. He graduated from De La Salle High School in 1967, and he graduated magna cure laude in history from Saint John's Univer- sity in 1971. He entered the novi- tiate of Saint John's Abbey in 1971 and requested the name Dietrich in honor of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the great German Lutheran theo- logian who resisted the Nazi move- ment and lost his life during World War II. Reinhart received his mas- ter's degree in 1976 and doctorate in 1984. In 1991 Reinhart was elected president of Saint John's Univer- sity and was the first non-ordained monk to be president. In 1997, Brother Dietrich was re-elected for a second term in 1997, and a third term in 2003. In Sept. 2008, he was diagnosed with malignant meta- static melanoma. Brother Dietrich is survived by a brother Stephen and sisters Susan and Mary Blocker. Wayne Shoutz, 75 Wayne Shoutz of Grove City died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at the St. Cloud Hospital. He was 75. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, at the Augustana Memorial Chapel in Litchfield with Pastor Jim Hall officiating. Wayne Wilfred Shoutz was born Nov. 2i, 1933, in Forest City Township, Meeker County, Minn. to Leslie and Signe (Knutson) Shoutz. He was baptized and later confirmed, and he received his education at the country school in Forest City. Wayne actively served in the U.S. Army from Dec. 11, 1956, to April 10, 1958. He married Sharon Lindquist Nov. 22, 1958, in Forest City. They had 10 children and 45 years of marriage. Sharon died Feb. 18, 2003. Wayne worked as a cement mason until retiring in 1985. He enjoyed playing the harmonica and violin-uke. He also enjoyed yodeling and singing for his chil- dren, especially enjoying old folk songs and "Strawberry Roan." Wayne liked to play cards, and he also enjoyed many outdoor activities, hunting for coon, deer and fox; fishing and camping. He looked forward to the annual fam- ily camping trip. He liked to spend time with his children, grandchil- dren and great-granddaughter. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, and wife Sharon. He is survived by his chil- dren Scott Shoutz of Forest City, Kathryn (and Wayne) Pearson of Hutchinson, Tammy (and David) Housman of Litchfield, Randy (and Jan) Shoutz of Maple Grove, Todd (and Sara) Shoutz of Litch- field, Tina (and John) Young of Forest City, Heidi (and Jeff) John- son of Litchfield, Lisa (and Matt) Dahl of Grove City, Jamie (and Tricia) Shoutz of Sauk Centre, Jennifer (and Dan) Floren of Litch- field; 16 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter i brothers and sisters Milton Shoutz of Eden Valley, Lloyd (and Sharon) Shoutz of Forest City, Ann Holmgren of Grove City, Peggy Knapp of Port- land, Ore., Janice Bollin of Grove City, Carol (and John) Malharek of Litchfield, Sherry (and Walter) Knutson of Annandale; and many nieces, nephews and other rela- tives and friends. Special music was provided by Melinda Zimmerman and JoAnn Irvin. Casket bearers were Jere- miah Shoutz, Samantha Shoutz, Kevin Young, Alex Young, Amanda Shoutz, and Ashley Shoutz. Virginia Viking, 91 Virginia L. Viking of South Haven died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008, at the Annandale Care Cen- ter. She was 91. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, at Zion United Methodist Church in South Haven with Rev. Heather E. Klason officiating. Friends called one hour prior to services at the church. Interment was at Evergreen Cem- etery in Brainerd. Virginia Lucille Viking was born June 15, 1917, in Brainerd to Edward John and Mae Lucille (Wilson) Ebinger. She graduated from Brainerd High School and in 1937 graduated from St. Cloud Teachers College. Virginia taught school for 25 years, the last five in South Haven, retiring in 1963. She married Robert Lee Viking Feb. 10, 1943, in Brainerd; he preceded her in death Jan. 27, 2008. Virginia was a member of United Methodist Women and Zion United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and youth fellowship leader. She volunteered at the Annandale Senior Dining Center and enjoyed reading, traveling, cooking and baking. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Robert, grandson Eric Johnson Viking, and sisters Donna Kapus and Joyce Wels. She is survived by her son Robert (and Nancy) Viking of Woodbury; nephews Kevin Kapus of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Glenn (and Sherri) Kapus of Cas- tle Rock, Colo.; and sister Muriel Strasburg of Anaheim, Calif.
