A train was fast approaching andmanaged to stop before striking the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the Meeker County Impound Lot. 20 years ago Joe Bertram resigned as longtime District 14 State Senator amid allegations of impro- priety stemming from a shoplifting charge. Bertram was first elected to the Senate in 1980 and was reelected three times. 30 years ago The fifth grade at Kimbatl Elementary class presented their version of the play "Wizard of Oz." The reading group was busy making props, costumes, and memorizing lines for the play. 40 years ago Tim Fogarty, son of Helen and the late Phillip Fogarty, was killed in a car crash as he was returning home from his employment at the Watkins Creamery. The highway had become extremely slippery and his car collided with another car driven by Joan Mitteness, 17, of Benson. Neither Joan nor her passenger, Rosemary Byrne, were injured.
