Parnell is a motivational speaker who travels the country with the goal of educating others on the dangers of drug use. His program was entitled, "Facing the Dragon: One man's battle against methaphetamine." Mr. Parnell is a meth and suicide-attempt survivor. 20 years ago Kim Pelzer retired from coaching girls athletics after 19 years of coaching. She was hon- ored with the National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) Breaking Barriers award. "We have come a long way," Pelzer said, "in little pieces." Kim retired to spend more time with her family and get more involved in the athletic pursuits of her own children. 30 years ago The Ski Patrol members and the Kimball Rescue Squad did their utmost to save Barbara Larson, 46, of Willmar who fell on her way up on the rope tow at Powder Ridge, but she died before reaching the hospital. Her husband, Robert, daughter ]odi and a friend were also skiing at the time the accident occurred. 40 years ago Mr. and Mrs. Authur Kuechle of rural Watkins are the recipients of the Conservation Farmer of the Year Award for 1976 from the Stearns County Soil and Water Conservation District board in recognition of their achievements in sound conservation land use. The Kuechles own and operate a 200-acre dairy farm in Luxemburg Township. Compiled by layne Harff
