qll Cubs boys' basketball v Rockford and HL-W-W By Iay Klein, coach Cubs struggle in loss to Rockford The Kimball Cubs traveled to Rockford last Tuesday night, Jan. 22, to take on the Rockets. It was a slow start for Kimball falling behind early by having difficulty with Rockford's zone defense. The Cubs shot the ball poorly in the half (10/29) and trailed by 38-26 at the break. In the second half, the Cubs played with more intensity. On two different occasions, Kimball cut the lead to eight points. In the end, the Cubs were forced to foul, and Rockford converted their free- throws to post a 76-56 win. Cameron Hunt was the lone Cub player in double figures with 19 points. Austin Roerick led the rebounding effort with six boards. Cameron Hunt added seven assists and five steals. The Cubs record fell to 8-5 on the season. Slow start dooms Cubs v HL-W-W After being on the road for two weeks the Cubs hosted the Lakers from Howard Lake-Waverly-Win- sted last Friday evening, Jan. 25. Kimball was down early as a result of being careless with the basket- ball. Eleven first-half turnovers led to easy fast-break points for the Lakers. The Cubs trailed by 17 at the half (39-22). Once again, Kimball battled in the second half, cutting into the HL-W-W lead. The deficit proved to be too big to overcome. The Cubs fell by a score of 65-48. larred Merchant and Cam- eron Hunt led in the scoring column with 15 and 13 points respectively. Austin Roerick did a great job cleaning the glass with 11 rebounds. Cameron Hunt dished out six assists and had four steals.
