M N "Monster" Mike Schultz won his third X-Games gold Sunday afternoon, Jan. 30, in Aspen, Colo. After a terrifying snocross accident two years ago, Schultz's left leg was amputated above the knee. He has designed and fabricated his own prosthetic leg and knee to withstand the rigors of extreme sports. Returning to his passions, motocross and snocross, Schultz has now won two gold medals in the Winter X-Games (snocross) and a gold in the Summer X-Games (motocross) in the adaptive class. Above, Mike easily sails over a 125-foot jump, the only thing missing from the =adaptive" track, in practice; he did so several times before the final race. This year's third-place winner in adaptive snocross did so wearing a prosthetic leg designed and made by Schultz. Without missing a beat, Schultz has thrown himself into the prosthetics fabrication business, and he also mentors and trains other athletes facing challenges. The Kimball Elementary School boys' basketball team traveled to Glencoe Saturday Jan. 29, to play in the Glenco-Silver Lake Elemen- tary Tournament. The team won three games and brought home first-place medals. They defeated Glenco-Silver Lake Silver 32-4, then beat Dassel-Cokato 21-8, and won the championship game against a very tough Glencoe-Silver Lake Purple team 23-16. The boys played hard all day, and did a great job of representing their school and their community. They now have an overall record of 10 wins and three losses on the sea- son. Thanks to all the parents and family members who attended and cheered the boys on in Glencoe!
