By Pat Garry, StaffWriter The Eagles ran into a buzz saw Monday, Feb. 1, in Eden Valley, when Minnewaska came to town and handed them just their sec- ond loss of the campaign. The Lakers posted a 30-18 halftime advantage and never relinquished it, taking the non-conference win, 60-48. Eden Valley-Watkins now stands at a very respectable 17-2 overall. Staff photos byAnton Matua. 3 EV-W junior varsity teams EV:W's Junior Varsity A team brought home the gold from the Knowledge Bowl conference meet at Kimball Friday, Feb. 5. The EV-W Junior Varsity B team, meanwhile, brought home bronze medals. This was the second of four conference meets. Points are accumulated with trophies pre- sented to the top three teams in varsity and junior varsity at the end of the season. Gold medal winners included sophomores Grant Kahlstorf, Maggie Schmaltz, Sarah Wirz, Brad Dockendorf, George Lemke and Hannah Holmberg. Bronze medals went to the team of fresh- men AlexFoehrenbacher, Kennedy Kleist, Cole Gasper, Johanna Ruhland, and eighth-grader Cory Zimmerman. In the varsity competition, EV-W Varsity I placed fourth while Varsity II placed second. Varsity I members included seniors Jasmine Miller and Brad Zimmerman, and juniors Reese Jansen, Greg Lux, Nathan Utecht. Varsity II mem- bers were Soren Schreich, Joey Kuechle, Tyler Malvin, Andrew Bautch andJaDyn Nohner. EV-W's Junior Varsity C team of Eric Fodstad, Rae Eckerly, Anna Kahlstorf and Grant ]ohnson placed eighth.
