Thursday, Februa00 12, 2oo00 Classifieds Tri-Coun News * Kimball, MN Sesquicentennial farm applications due April 1 Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation (MFBF) is proud to announce the continuation of the Sesquicentennial Farm Recogni- tion Program. Last year, the Min- nesota Department of Agriculture awarded over 90 farms with this distinction as the state of Minne- sota celebrated its Sesquicenten- nial Year. Minnesota Farm Bureau&apos;s Ses- quicentennial Farm program will honor Minnesota families who have owned their farms for at least 150 years. The Sesquicentennial Farm program recognizes family farms according to the following qualifications: The farm must be at least 150 years old this year (2009) accord- ing to the abstract of title, land patent, original deed, county land records, court file in registration proceedings, or other authentic land records. Please do not send originals or copies of records. Your family must have owned the farm for 150 years or more. "Family" is defined as parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, first cousins and direct in-laws (father, mother, brother, sister, daughter, son-in-law). Continuous residence on farm is not required, but ownership must be continuous. The farm should consist of 50 or more acres, and currently be involved in agricultural produc- tion. A commemorative certificate signed by the Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation President Kevin Paap, Minnesota Depart- ment of Agriculture Commissioner Gene Hugoson, and Governor Tim Pawlenty will be awarded to qual- ifying families along with an out- door sign signifying Sesquicenten- nial Farm recognition.. Informa- tion on all Sesquicentennial Farm families will be available at the Minnesota Farm Bureau exhibit during the 2009 State Fair, Aug. 27 through Labor Day, Sept. 7. Programs for young farmers and ranchers help develop leadership skills and improve farm management.
