Jordan Joseph and Travis Wills both competed in the NYWA State tournament in Rochester, Minn., &pril 2-5. Jordan competed in the 5/6 grade - 140 lb. weight class, and Travis in the 7/8 grade- 150 lb. class. Both were region champions and entered the tournament with high hopes. Jordan pinned his way into the finals and then 'took home the gold' with an 8-2 victory over William Parks from Perham. Jor- dan was a little undersized for the weight class but made up for it by using his quickness and determi- nation to foil the competition. Jordan has won several youth state titles, but this one was par- ticularly exciting, as there were several former state champions loaded into this one bracket. Jor- dan has been asked to represent Kimball and Minnesota in the National Heartland Elementary duals next weekend in Fremont, Nebraska. He has accepted the offer and plans to represent our area well! Travis Wills also entered into Jordan Joseph a very tough weight bracket, with the top six wrestlers being very competitive. Travis won his first match with a fall in 26 seconds, which was a great way to get things rolling. Thurber, a freshman at KAHS took first place in his weight class. He made quite an impression with his take-downs at this event. Fans also admired his 'throwback' singlet from ear- lier Kimball wrestling days. Leach, an eighth-grader at KAHS, took second place in his weight class, despite giving up 10-20 pounds, to each of his opponents. Leach also brought home the trophy for 'Fast- est Fall' (pinning his opponent in 32 seconds) for the seventh- and eighth-graders at the Open.
