Maurer and Robert A. "Bob" Gambrino with the 2016 Zapp Historian Award at its annual on Thursday, May 5, at the Gorecki Center on the campus of the College of St. Benedict, St. Joseph. The award is given to persons or an organiza- tion who have contributed signifi- cantly to the awareness and pres- ervation of community history and cukure. Maurer and Gambrino were instrumental in rejuvenating the Stearns County Historical Society in 1974 and in building the museum in 1983. Their early leadership and continued sup- port of the Society throughout the years has brought the Museum's mission of preserving local his- tory to the forefront of Minnesota museums. Both were members of the Museum's Ex Officio Board as a representative of the County Board of Commissioners. Maurer was on the County Board for 28 years. Gambrino, who died in 2005, served on the board for 32 years. Both were insurance professionals.
