Lake Maria S.P. program June 6 By Mark Crawford The Raptor Center at the Uni- versity of Minnesota and musi- cian and author. Doug Wood will highlight a doubleheader program at Lake Maria State Park Sunday June 6. Beginning at 11 a.m., in the council-seating area adjacent to the nature center (weather per- mitting), the Raptor Center event will include live hawks and an 0wl, and possibly another raptor, with commentary by staff at the center. These are education birds, in that their injuries are such they cannot be released into the wild. Followingrefreshments overthe noon hour, Wood will perform in the nature center starting at 1 p.m. As a musician, he writes music fea- turing vocals, 6-and 12-string gui- tars, fiddle and a banjo, blending musicianship with story-telling. Wood is the author of the classic children's book, O/d Turtle. Some of his latest books are The Secret of Saying Thanks, Miss Little's Gift and The Wisdom ofNature, a series of small inspirational" books for adults. The program is free and is sponsored by the Friends of Lake Maria. However, there is a $5 vehi- cle entrance fee for those without an annual permit.
