Watch ... from the Tri-County News archives 10 years ago A memorial graveside re-enactment was held Saturday, May 27, at Maine Prairie Cemetery. A "funeral" was held for Horace Greeley, a casualty of the Civil War. Members of the funeral party were dressed in period costumes, and the casket was delivered by horse-drawn hearse. Pastor David Milz provided the benediction. The Memorial Day service was coordinated by the Kimball Area Historical Society as part of the sesquicentennial of Maine Prairie. 20 years ago Kimball sixth grade Country Fair was held this past week. Each student picked a country and wrote to the embassy. The students researched their country for about six weeks, and wrote para- graphs and put together display boards. The entire school was invited to tour the displays. Many Of the students dressed in costumes and brought items from the country they researched. 30 years ago Lynn Marie Harff, of rural Watkins, was named Region VI Dairy Princess on Friday evening, June 6, during Dairy Days. She will represent Stearns County in the Princess Kay of the Milky Way contest at the State Fair in August. 40 years ago A new law was passed banning bald tires. Tires with tread worn below 1/16th of an inch will be illegal on passenger cars in Minnesota after Aug. 1, and violators will be subject to arrest and fines, Minnesota Public Safety Commissioner Edward G. Novak warned this week. "Minnesota is now the 41st state to ban the use of bald tires," Novak said. Compiled by layne Harff
