Kimball erupts in Central Valley League win over St. Nicholas; defeats New Munich Silver Streaks in exhibition play By Mike Nistler The Express took an undefeated Central Valley League record to St. Nicholas Sunday, June 12, and came away with a lopsided victory over the winless Nicks 17-3. There were plenty of hitting stars for the Express. Leadoff hitter and left felder Austin Ruehle ~vent 4-for-5 with a single in each of the first four innings. Ruehle would score two runs and drive in two. Newcomer Zach Sufka, who had just finished playing high school baseball for St. Cloud Cathedral, went 3-for-4 with two doubles to the fence in right cen- terfield as the Express starting catcher. Sufka scored three runs and drove one in as well. Kyle Winter was 2-for-4 includ- ing a long drive over the leftfield fence for a three-run home run. Scott Marquardt, who started at second base for the Express, was 3-for-3 with one of his hits being a three-run shot over the left field fence. He finished the day with two runs scored and four RBI. Ben Johnson was 2-for-4 with two RBI including a solo home run. On the day, the Express regis- tered 20 hits. The team even saw a first as three generations of Marquardts played together. Manager Tom Marquardt, playing and managing in his 41st year of baseball, got an "at bat" as did his grandson, Cade Marquardt. Cade's father, Scott, along with Scott's brothers, Brian and Brooks, all contributed to the win. Zach Dingmann got the win for the Express on the mound throw- ing five innings. He allowed six hits and three runs while strik- ing out eight. Matt Dingmann fin- ished on the mound throwing the last two innings of no-hit relief work. He struck out four. Derek Kuechle started for the Nicks and was tagged for nine runs in three innings of work. Cory Grafft and Tanner Anderson relieved Kuechle. The Express scored two runs in the first, three in the second and one in the third to jump out to an early lead that they never relinquished.
