Accident, K-9 certification, local crime blotters Watkins women involved in two- car accident Tuesday, June 21, at about 4 p.m., the Stearns County Emer- gency Communications Center received a report of a motor-vehi- cle accident at the intersection of County Road 133 and 15th Ave. NE, in St. Joseph Township, just north of the St. Joseph city limits. Upon arrival, Sheriff's Depu- ties determined that a 1999 Ford Taurus driven by Charolette Ann Huls, age 59, of Holdingford, had been traveling southbound on County Road 133 and was trying to make a left turn onto 15th Ave. NE, when she was struck from behind by a 1998 Honda Accord driven by Vanessa Jane Dufner, age 16, of Watkins. Huls was treated at the scene by St: Joseph Rescue Squad and taken to the St. Cloud Hos- pital by Gold Cross Ambulance. Neither Dufner or her passenger, Amanda Lynn Waters age 27 of Watkins, were injured in the crash. St. Joseph Police also assisted at the scene. Meeker Co. K-9 officer now certified Sheriff Jeff Norlin is pleased to announce that The Meeker County Sheriff's Office K-9, a four-year-old German Shepherd named Titan, assigned to Deputy Reggie Sand- strom, certified at the 2011 United States Police Canine Association (USPCA) Region 18 PD1 trials. The trials were held in Woodbury, Monday and Tuesday, June 13-14. Approximately 64 Law Enforce- ment Agencies' K-9 teams attended from Minnesota and Wisconsin. All events were open to the pub- lic to watch. Certification consisted of several events including Arti- cle Search, Suspect Search, Agility, Obedience, Criminal Apprehen- sion, and Criminal Apprehension Event with gunfire. The Meeker County K-9 (Titan) has been serv- ing the citizens of Meeker County for little more than three years. Titan is a dual purpose K-9, so he is a patrol dog and a narcotic-detec- tion dog as well. Titan also certifies each year in narcotic detection. He has assisted in narcotic searches at warrants, traffic stops, and going through the local high schools for random locker searches. His role in patrol is in tracking suspects at the time of the inci- dent, locating suspects in build- ings and in apprehending sus- pects. Titan already has had more than a dozen narcotic finds. Titan and Deputy Sandstrom train on each of the areas weekly to main- tain his certification. The Meeker County Sheriff's Office has a long tradition in the use of K-9's, going back more than 20 years when then "Deputy Norlin" was a K-9 Deputy. The Meeker County Sheriff's Office is proud of this tradition and to be continuing this service for the citi- zens of Meeker County. Sheriff Nor- lin adds that Deputy Sandstrom and Titan perform many demon- strations throughout the year and will be in a town near you again. They regularly give demonstrations during Meeker County's participa- tion in National Night Out and are scheduled again later this summer in Grove CiE, Watkins, and the Das- sel areas in addition to schools, and group requests. Wright County Sheriff's Office On June 20, Travis Richard Summerlet, 23, of Watkins was arrested in Stearns County on a Wright County warrant for issu- ance of worthless check. On June 24, Kyle Gregory Payne, 26, of Maple Lake was arrested in Corinna Township on a Wright County warrant for 3rd degree DWI. There were 9 property damage accidents, 3 personal-injury acci- dents, 2 hit-and-run accidents, and 2 car-deer accidents. There were 4 arrests for DWI, 4 underage consumption arrests, no school-bus stop-arm viola- tions, and 96 tickets for miscella- neous traffic violations issued this week. Meeker County Sheriff's Office Monday. lune 27 12:39 a.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to :a 9-1-1 hang up call at a residence on 608th Avenue, Litchfield. Upon arrival of dep- uties, Donald Kilpela, age 42 of Litchfield, was arrested on two counts of domestic assault, child endangerment, and interference with a 9-1-1 call; Keli Kilpela, age 39 of Litchfield, was arrested for domestic assault and child endan- germent. Gold Cross Ambulance was also dispatched after the arrival of the deputies and the par- ties were treated on scene. Saturday, June 25 12:43 a.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a disturbance on State Street North, Eden Val- ley. After investigation, deputies arrested Robert Eugene Lade, age 40, of Eden Valley, for Disorderly Conduct and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. 5:19 a.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a dog complaint at a residence on MN Highway 22, Eden Valley. A deputy transported a white dog with black spots on ears and eyes, to the pound. 7:35 p.m, the Sheriff's Office dispatched Eden Valley Rescue per the request of Stearns County for a medical at a residence on MN Highway 22, Eden Valley. 11:20 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a runaway at a residence on MN Highway 24, Kimball. Friday, June 24 3:28 a.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a report of suspi- cious activity at a residence on MN Highway 24, Watkins. The deputy checked the area and residence and all appeared to be okay. 6:55 a.m. the Sheriff's Office dispatched Watkins Ambulance per the request of Stearns County for a medical at a residence on 93rd Avenue, in Maine Prairie Town- ship. One individual was trans- ported to the Buffalo Hospital. 10:49 a.m. the Sheriff's Office took a report of possible crimi- nal sexual conduct at a residence on County State Aid Highway 20, Paynesville. 6:09 p.m. the Sheriff's Office received a report of a custody issue at a residence on County State Aid Highway 2Z South Haven. The deputy made contact and advised the individual of options. 7:34 p.m. the Sheriff's Office assisted the Stearns County Sher- iff's Office with locating an indi- vidual at a residence on 373rd Street, Eden Valley. 9:44 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a report of suspicious activity on School Avenue South, Watkins. The deputy checked the area and found that the vehicle had left prior to arrival. 10:07 p.m. the Sheriff's Office took a report of a domestic distur- bance at a residence on 2rid Street North, Watkins. 10:13 p.m. a Sheriff's Deputy observed an occupied stalled vehi- cle in the area of MN Highway 55 and County State Aid Highway 34, Watkins. The deputy made con- tact with the individuals; found all to be okay and the vehicle was not a road hazard. Thursday, June 23 5:29 a.m. the Sheriff's Office assisted the MN State Patrol with a car/deer accident on MN Highway 24 and 309th Street, Litchfield. There were no injuries. 7:33 a.m. the Sheriff's Office received a report of a driving com- plaint southbound on MN High- way 15 near MN Highway 24, Kim- ball. The information was trans- ferred to the MN State Patrol. 3:33 p.m. the Sheriff's Office received a report of a donkey on US Highway 12 near Grove Creek Raceway, Grove City. A deputy located the animal and returned it to its pen. Wednesday, June 22 4:27 a.m. the Sheriff's Office received a commercial burglar alarm at a business on Central Avenue North, Watkins. A short time later the deputy was can- celed, as it was a false alarm. 10:11 a.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to the report of an alarm at a residence on 330th Street, Watkins. Upon arrival, the deputy found everything to be okay. 10:52 a.m. the Sheriff's Office received a report of an animal complaint on County State Aid Highway 17, Watkins. While the deputy was placing the dog in the pound the owner made contact with the transporting party and the dog was returned to the owner. 10:53 a.m. the Sheriff's Office, per Stearns County, dispatched Watkins Ambulance for a medical at an address on Magnus Johnson Street South, Kimball. One indi- vidual was transported to St Cloud Hospital. 3:04 p.m. the Sheriff's Office received a report of a possible probation violation at an address on 370th Street, Watkins. Upon arrival, the deputy determined there was no violation. 4:21 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a dog complaint at an address on County State Aid Highway 24, South Haven. Upon the deputy's arrival the issue had been resolved. Tuesday, |une 21 2:38 a.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to a commercial bur- glar alarm at a business on Central Avenue North, Watkins. The dep- uty was canceled prior to arrival, as it was a false alarm. 1:13 p.m. the Sheriff's Office took a report of child maltreat- ment at a residence on Glen Road North, Watkins. 4:01 p.m. the Sheriff's Office took a report of harassment at a residence on 355th Street, Wat- kins. 6:58 p.m. the Sheriff's Office assisted the public at a residence on SchoolAvenue South, Watkins. Monday, June 20 12:00 a.m. a Sheriff's Deputy observed an open gate on MN Highway 15, Dassel. The deputy checked the property, found all to be okay and reconnected the gate. 10:01 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to and dispatched Kim- ball Rescue and Watkins Ambu- lance to a medical at a residence on 746th Avenue, South Haven. One individual was transported to the St. Cloud Hospital.
