PAHCS board member earns :certification Richard Philabaum, a trustee of Paynesville Area Health Care System in Paynesville, was hon- ored July 8 for completing the Minnesota Hospital Association (MHA) board member certifica- tion program. Certifications were awarded at the association's sum- mer trustee conference. Under the voluntary training program, hospital board mem- bers earn at least 35 education unit credits for studying in topics as varied as strategic planning, posi- tioning, patient safety and quality. The program is designed to help trustees remain up-to-date on health-care issues, to hone their leadership skills and to develop governance best practices. Mr. Philabaum represents the City of Roscoe and has served on the board for 12 years. In addition to serving on the board, he serves as president of the District D HCAM Association and president of the Paynesville Hospital Aux- iliary. Richard was employed for 36 years at the St. Cloud VA Hospi- tal in materials management and acquisition. "Healthcare is ever- changing, on a local, state and national level. Continuing educa- tion is the foundation for a better understanding of the healthcare issues we face and achieving this certification was a way to better serve the board and my commu- nity," stated Philabaum. "This certification program demonstrates that participants take their stewardship role very seriously," MHA President and CEO Lawrence Massa said. "This designation is just one more indi- cation that Paynesville Area Health Care System maintains high standards of excellence." The Pearl Lake Lakers won 3-0 with Justin Kunkel pitching his first no hitter He struck out 10 batters and gave up two walks. The scor- ing was all in the fourth inning, and started with Andy Lenz- meier getting a base hit. Then with one out, Jordan Neu, in a suicide squeeze bunt, beat the throw to first, getting a base hit and allow- ing the lead-off batter to score. Ben Theisen knocked Jordan in with a stand-up double. Luke Merten had a base hit to score Ben from third. The four hits in the fourth inning took them to a 3-0 lead which lasted through the final inning. Pearl Lake had a total of 7 hits with Jordan Neu and Ben Thiesen both going 2-for-3.
