Thursday, July 18, 2013 News * , Benefit to promote organ donation By ]ean Doran Mama, editor The loss of a young child is dev- astating. Little Deegan was diag- nosed with a cavernous brain mal- formation shortly before his sec- ond birthday. He was taken in for surgery right away, but there were complications. His parents, Bai- ley Johnson and Josh Pramann, were faced with a heart-wrench- ing decision. Because they chose to donate Deegan's organs, three other young children were saved. Deegan's heart now beats in a 3-year-old, his liver saved a 1-year- old, and a 4-year-old received Deegan's lower intestines (a very rare transplant procedure). Deegan's knee cartilage was har- vested and will be used to help many patients; it can be kept for up to five years to be used when needed. A benefit "Drive for Donors" will be held Sunday, Aug. 18, starting at Pearl Lake Lodge in Marty. Regis- tration starts at 11 a.m., with the drive (bike, hot-rod, or street car) starting at noon. It's really a total stranger keeping a part of you or your loved one alive. Please consider being an organ donor. Look how many people our 22-month-old little Deegan was able to help."
