31ST ANNUAL M NNESOTA BLUEGRASS & OLD-TIME Music FE.';TIVAL Family Area Preview Calling all families! Come and join other families in the Family Area. There will be lots of new and exciting things in the Family Area this year. In addition to the .stage shows that are intended for a wide range of ages, there will be games, contests, and craft projects too. One of the highlights of our area is the "Pick Up & Play An Instrument". At 10:30 AM each morning we provide instruments for you Sloughgrass to learn a tune on. Our friends from Sloughgrass will help you. At 11:30 AM you play your tune in the Big Jam with everyone else. A special guest this year in the Family Area this year will be Andy Glandt. Andy Andy Glandt was born in north eastern Germany, in a small town called Demmin. At the age of 12 he learned to ........ : play the clarinet, later the guitar, and finally he picked up the banjo. In 1984 he founded the Fox Tower Bluegrass Band. From 1991 until 1995 Andy played banjo and guitar with the country and rockabilly band Greenhorn and from 1992 until 2000 with the bluegrass swing trio Andy's Breakdown. His current projects include several children's programs in German and English and the duo project Lady Sou & The Singing Banjoman. Andy will be doing shows in the Family Area on Friday, - Saturday, and Sunday, as well as a late night show in the Marketplace on Saturday. It's surprising to witness a parent telling their child, "How many times do I have to tell you to turn that music...UP! Is that all the louder it gets? We need bigger speakers..." Okee Dokee Brothers But, The Okee Dokee Brothers' music is full of surprises and it serves as a connection point for parents and their children. In every song there is room for kids to dance and par- ents to feel like kids again. You'll find The Okee Dokee Brothers on Friday and Saturday in the Family Area and also at the Marketplace on Saturday at dinner time. The Fish Heads will be back with a camp- fire jam in t'he Family Area on Friday evening. Bring your instru- ment and your singing voice and join in. Also on the schedule you'll also find shows from Rory & Kiley Ellingson, The Halvorsons, Hannah Lauryn & Eb Fuchs, and The Kalisch Family. There will also be talent shows on both Friday and Saturday. Does your family or family member have what it takes? The act judged to be the best will win a tweener spot on the main stage later in the day, and be invited back at 1:00 PM Sunday on the family stage.
