Legal Notice REGULAR MEETING UNOFFICIAL MINUTES BOARD OF EDUCATION AUGUST 17, 2011 IND. SCHOOL DISTRICT 739 KIMBALL, MN The meeting was called to order by treasurer Schreiner at 6:31 p.m. with all members except Helgeson and Stenger present. Chair Helge- son arrived at 6:45 and resumed his place as chair, member Stenger arrived at 6:50. The Pledge of Allegiance was said by all in attendance. Dockery/Gagnon approved the agenda as amended. MC Representatives from the Kim- ball All Sports Booster Club pre- sented a request to add batting cages with pitching machines to the sports complex at the high school; also requested permis- sion to have tailgating and activi- ties prior to the first home football game; finally, the Boosters would like to work with the school to pro- mote the activities and increase the number of fans at the home events. The Boosters are to meet with the Activities Director and the Activities Committee to coor- dinate these activities, and to bring back to the board final plans for the pitching machines and bat- ting cages. Mr. Widvey introduced Sue Currens, special education coor- dinator who comes to Kimball through the Benton-Stearns Edu- cation District. Celebrations of students and staff included the float with all of the state entrants from last year. A thank you to Erik Widvey for his visibility during the Kimball Days Thursday, September 1, 2011 Tri-County News Kimball, MN festivities. The 14U and both 120 gifts' softball teams participated at state. Mr. Widvey reported on the high school open-house on 8/31, workshop begins on 8/29, MCA data is not available until Septem- ber 30th, ACT data was released indicating that Minnesota is at the top. Several Kimball students had scores in the 30's. The last hall- ways are being waxed this week in final cleaning for the school year. Mr. Houseman reported on elementary open-house on 8/30, custodial staff and secretary are busy getting furniture and sup- plies put back into classrooms, the gym floor is nearing comple- tion, rain was an issue for get- ting the roof completed sooner, but it is progressing nicely. Ele- mentary enrollment is up 10 stu- dents from last spring at a current K-6 enrollment of 352. The Eng- lish/Language Arts teachers have met to update curriculum to the standards. 3-2-1 Blast-Off summer program is winding down, and the extended school year program is finishing up this week. Mr. Tritabaugh reported on upcoming meetings - the Wel- come Back Breakfast on 8/31 at 7:15, the next Benton-Stearns Edu- cation District meeting is on 9/21 as is a Stearns County Family Ser- vices Collaborative meeting, and the next school board meeting in the evening of the 21st. Monday, August 29th, Mr. Tritabaugh will attend a hearing with the city on utility improvements and assess- ments. Information comparing the meal reimbursement rates set for the Kimball District with a num- ber of area districts was pro- vided for informational purposes. A request may come to a future meeting asking to change the cur- rent policy. Committee reports included Transportation- Gagnon, Benton- Stearns - Schreiner/Tritabaugh. A Resolution Concurring with a Pro- posed Lease-Purchase Transac- tion Related to the Acquisition of an Educational Facility for Ben- ton-Stearns Education District was presented for board approval. Motion by Schreiner, seconded by Zipoy. Upon roll call vote, Zipoy, Dockery, Helgeson, Schreiner, Gagnon, and Stenger voted in favor, no one voted against. MC Communications included thank-you cards received from the families of Verlinda Schindele and Donna Houseman. Gagnon/Schreiner approved payment of the listed bills in the amount of $304,566.20. MC Gagnon/Dockery approved the consent agenda. The consent agenda included approval of the minutes for July 20, 2011, organi- zational board meeting. MC The treasurer's report for July was reviewed and discussed. Zipoy/Gagnon approved assignment of Lee Paulzine to 8th grade football, and Jon Albert to 7th grade football. MC Gagnon/Zipoy, with a thank- you for service in a time-consum- ing gig, accepted the resignation from Jr. Class Advisor received from Vicki Woods. MC Schreiner/Stenger approved new and revised policies: ACC/ JD - Hazing Prohibition (revised), ACB/ACB Form- Harassment and Violence (revision), ACD - Bul- lying Prohibition (new), GBJ - Family and Medical Leave (revi- sion), and JGC - Use of Peace Offi- cers and Crisis Teams to Remove Students with IEP's from School Grounds (revision) Gagnon/Zipoy approved Deonne Stangle, cheedeading advisor for 2011-2012. MC Member Robin Dockery announced that her family has located a new home outside of the Kimball District with plans to move within the next month or so, and will be resigning from the school board in the near future.
