The car failed to stop for the deputy and a car pursuit began that lasted about nine miles. The car eventu- ally was disabled by spike strips and stopped on Wright County Road 7 near County Road 123. The driver then fled the car on foot, but was eventually taken into custody by the deputy. The suspect is identified as Cory Donald Wojcik, 38, of Elk River. Thompson sentence to be recalculated Former Fairhaven Township resident Jerry Thompson, age 52, was convicted of burglary, assault, kidnapping, and attempted first- degree murder. Thompson will be re-sentenced after the Minnesota Court of Appeals ruled that his sen- tence for trying to kill his wife was improperly calculated. He was accused of going to his estranged wife's home in 2008, fir- ing a gunshot at her, kidnapping her at gunpoint, and leading police on a slow-speed chase before crash- ing the car with a sheriff's deputy. The ruling of the Appeals court was that the lower court erred in calcu- lating Thompson's criminal history score. It's the formula courts use to calculate senteces for criminals. The court said that the point total used was higher than it should be. The case goes back now to Stearns County for a new sentence.
