PAGE 2 October 20, 2016 www.tricountynews.mn - By Iayne Harif, Staff After driving past the vacated Watkins Retirement Center time and time again while on his way to visit his father, Trevor Bakken decided to purchase the prop- erty along with his neighbor and business partner, Jeff Johnson. Anticipating they would give the building a much needed face-lift, it soon became apparent more work would be required. As a result, the 1920s building has been com- pletely gutted and redone. For all practical purposes, residents will be mov- ing into a new facility. The building has five rooms with two bathrooms upstairs and nine rooms with three bath- rooms downstairs. There is a laun- dry room available for use by res- idents, or residents can choose to have the laundry done for them as an amenity. Residents can enjoy three daily meals at the facil- ity. Other amenities include bed checks, parking, and nursing care if needed. There are two bright sunrooms, one on each floor. The common area on the main level features a large screen TV and a nice cozy fireplace. Jeff stressed the new Watkins House is about family and having a homey setting for residents. Trevor and Jeff are tentatively planning for a Nov. 1 opening. Pricing has not yet been estab- lished, but there will be rooms available for under $1,000 per month. An open house is being planned.
