The fire grew rapidly due to the wind. Kimball Fire Department called for assistance from Watkins, Dassel, and Litchfield Fire Departments. A total of 37 firefighters were on the scene for nearly 2 and a half hours before the fire was put out. Approximately 40 acres were burned. 20 years ago Five members of the Kimball Future Leaders of America (FLA) were presented the "Youth at its Best Award" at the leadership training conference held at Des Moines, Iowa. Theywere picked over 2,500 students, 350 schools from 17 states. Members attending were Stefanie Dorman, Andrea Gillman, Andi Mertens, Dacla Simmons, and Sam Mackereth. 30 years ago The Lions Club held their shopping spree at the Red Owl Store in Kimball. The winner of $50 worth of meat and 2 minutes shopping of all the groceries he could pick up in that time was Jack Loch of Watkins. Jack filled his cart with $171.38 worth of groceries. 40 years ago There were 150 items selected for placement into the State Time Capsule. The Minnesota Time Capsule was a gift of Reynolds Metals Company. Each state has one and theyare all to be opened as part of the nation's Tricentennial celebration on July 4, 2075. Close to a thousand suggestions poured in from every corner of the State. Items included are a T-shirt reading "uff da", a picture of an elm-lined street, the "Student Bill of Rights", 25 MINNESOTA POETS, THE MINNESOTA ALMANAC, and a list of those companies in Minnesota who donate 5% of their pre-tax profits for community improvement in 1976.
