PAGE 6 ThursdaY, December 19, Church & Obituaries Barb Root dies in accident At 9 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, Bar- bara I. Root, 62, of Kimball, died in a three-car accident on High- way 24 at 670th Ave. Root was driving a 2004 Kia Rio heading west on Hwy. 24. She swerved to avoid hitting an east- bound car that was out of control. Her car struck head-on the 1995 Chevy pickup that was behind the car. According to the State Patrol and Meeker County Sheriff's reports, roads were icy and covered with snow at the time of the accident. Driver Matthew Bohach, 20 of Litchfield, had no apparent injury; his was the car that began to swerve. Douglas Hughes, 50 of Litch- field, was the driver of the pickup; his injuries were not life-threatening. As of press time, no informa- tion about services was available. Information will be posted on our website as soon as we receive it, and it will be shared on Facebook as well. Historic Salem Church Christmas Program Dec. 21 Everyone is invited to "Sing for Joy," a Christmas Program to be held at the Historic Salem Church near Paynesville, Saturday, Dec. 21. Sleigh rides with real reindeer will be available from 3-4:15 p.m. The program begins at 4:30 p.m. Coffee, cider and Christ- mas cookies will be served after the program and everyone will receive a goody bag filled with fruit, candy and nuts to take home. Gifts of toys and non-per- ishable food items are welcome and can be placed under the brightly decorated tree for deliv- ery to the Paynesville Community Center. A free-will offering will go for the restoration and preserva- tion of the church and grounds. Directions: When driving the Minnesota 23 bypass around Paynesville, turn north onto County Hwy. #33. At about 4 miles, look for Salem to the left (west) 220th Street. In case of bad weather, infor- mation will be on the Albany Radio Station. St. Wendelin's breakfast Jan. 12 St. Wendelin parish in Lux- emburg is sponsoring a break- fast from 8:30 a.m. to noon Sun- day, Jan 12, in Mary Hall. The menu includes sausage, pancakes with toppings, scrambled eggs, applesauce, toast, Cold Spring Bakery rolls, and beverages.
