The new public map on the Stearns County Web site is free for citizens to use. Basically, type in an address and the map will tell you more information about that location ... what school district it falls into, legislative district, vot- ing precinct, commissioner dis- trict, and parcel information. The map has numerous functions. This interactive map allows cit- izens to search for any property information that would be avail- able on a tax statement - such as who owns a piece of property, how much it's worth and what is paid in property taxes. There are also aerial photos, which cover the entire county. Users can slide between a map and aerial view. Once a property is selected, Google street views of properties are also available. Just like other well-known online mapping sites, one can type in addresses and get driving directions to anywhere within the County. Points of interest are marked, with addresses, so residents can locate churches, police and fire sta- tions, schools and water accesses. Citizens are also able to get elected official and school district information, all tied directly to each parcel. This interactive map allows for searching of any address. So for example, if someone is thinking of buying a new home, they have the ability to do a little homework before making the purchase. "This reallyis a nice map for the public to use," said Randy Schreif- els, Stearns County Auditor-Trea- surer. "It has some good informa- tion and is user-friendly." New features will continually be added to the map. Future plans are to display all the parks in the County, so people can see where to fish, rock climb, canoe, picnic and so on. Also in the next phase, it's planned to add election informa- tion, so people can get their spe- cific candidate information, direc- tions to their polling place, etc. "This map really is a work in progress," said Schreifels. "It will continue to be enhanced and will only get better for our citizens." Residents will find a link to the interactive map on the homepage of the Stearns County Web site at <>.
